  This unit is selected from Unit 9 of Grade 8. In this unit, students will learn how to make an invitation, accept an invitation or decline an invitation. This topic is closely related to students' daily life and can easily be extended to reality. Therefore, the integration of life and learning is an important feature of this unit.

学情分析

The students have learned the modal verb "can" in Grade seven. They already have the ability to describe activities. Therefore, pay attention to the way of answering when learning this unit. As long as the students actively participate in the teaching task, they will be able to learn this section.

Step 1

Warming-up and Leading-in

①Play a Happy New Year song.

②Sing the song with the students.

Presentation

①Show some pictures of the target words and phrases on the screen .

②Teach these words and phrases.

③Give Ss some time and try to remember the new words and expressions.

Game

①Give the English words and ask the Ss to find out the Chinese words that match them.

②Give the Chinese words and let the Ss say the English words as quickly as possible.

Work on 1a

①Teacher ask Ss to look at the pictures and match the activities with pictures.

②Check the answers with Ss.

Practice

③Check the answers with Ss.

Give students key information to make it easy to grasp the key points and quickly find key words in the process of listening.

Group work

①Help students form groups of four. Student A invites other three students to your party. The other students say “yes” or “no”. Remember to give a reason.

②Have the Ss work in groups.

③Let some groups ask and answer about their conversations.

Work with group members to practice the conversation.

By using what have learned above to make or accept an invitation, students gradually master the key content of this lesson in the target language.

Work on 2a: listening

①Read the sentences in 2a. Tell Ss they will listen some sentences. They should listen and circle the words “can” or “can’t” in the bracket.

②Play the recording for the Ss to listen and circle the words.

③Play the recording again to check the answers.

Listen to the tape and finish 2a.

Listen to the tape. Ask the students to circle can and can't quickly and accurately.

Step 9

Work on 2b

①Let Ss read the chart below. Tell Ss, this time they must write the reasons in the chart. Make sure they know what to do.

②Play the recording for the Ss to write the reasons in the chart.

③Play the recording again to check the answers.

Listen to the tape again and finish 2b.

Listen to the tape again so that the students can understand the dialogue with the new patterns. By further deepening the practice, students can consolidate the key contents of this lesson and improve the learning interest and listening ability.

Pair work

①Tell Ss to look at the reasons in the chart in 2b. Then write some more.
